'Bloom' sewing workshop - Fort Kochi, Kerala
These women are working at a sewing unit set up by Sophie Debiève Mathew. It gives them the opportunity to learn a trade, regain their self confidence and rediscover enjoyment of life. It felt to be an enormously relaxed, purposeful and supportive environment.
I had planned to draw on khadi cotton but the ladies were worried that it was too extravagant so I asked them to choose me something else! They chose this rather lurid green Century cotton. . . a bit of a challenge. . .
